Cassity Jones, the founder of the company now know as Cassity Jones, I.L.P., began selling lumber and building material from a leased facility in Carthage, Texas in 1950. Prior to opening that first store, he and his brother Thomas were in the home building business, the wholesale grocery business and the truck and tractor business.

During the 50's and early 60's, their business prospered by building housing projects, developing real estate and operating the lumber company. In the mid 60's, they sold the truck and tractor business and divided the assets of the company with Cassity keeping the Carthage Lumber Company and Thomas taking the newly acquired North Street Lumber Company in Nacogdoches, Texas.

Cassity soon acquired a "hole in the wall" lumber company in Longview, Texas and began selling lumber to homebuilders. In 1971, Cassity opened his first modern full line building material store in Carthage. This move was followed by a major remodel and expansion to the Longview store in 1973.

Three more stores were added in the 1970's: Tyler in '75; Henderson in '77; and Marshall in '79. In the mid 80's, the Cedar Hill (Dallas) store was opened. In each location, professional service was stressed as an important part of the value that Cassity Jones provides to its customers.

The 80's were extremely difficult times to be in the lumber and building materials business in Texas. With housing starts at all-time lows, innovations in areas such as floor covering, installed sales and efficient delivery processes were bright spots in the company's struggle to survive.

In 1988, Cassity sold his interest in Cassity Jones, Lumber. to his children, but remained heavily involved in the business by serving as chairman of the board and spearheading special projects.

The 90's proved to be much better times for the home building business and for the Cassity Jones Family of companies, as well. A new building material and floor covering operation was opened in Mabank, Texas in 1995, followed by a stand-alone floor covering store in Tyler, Texas in 1997. The company also purchased Winn Tile Co. in Tyler in 1996, A-1 Rental in Longview in 1998, and opened a door mill operation in Tyler in 1999.

In response to requests by new construction customers, the company started an interim construction financing program in 1996. This service has since grown into a separate business called Builders Capital, Ltd.

The floor covering operations of Cassity Jones Lumber was organized into a separate division in 2000 with the ownership remaining the same. This move allowed management to focus on a vision and mission for floor covering independent from the traditional lumber and building material business. However, in both businesses the overall goal remains the same as always… to be the "best in the business" of fulfilling the needs of customers.

Today, the Cassity Jones family of companies currently consist of 8 lumber and building material stores, 7 floor covering operations, 3 equipment rental businesses, 1 commercial flooring company, and 1 finance company. With corporate headquarters in Longview, these businesses operate throughout the Northeast Texas and Dallas area markets.
